Work at home ... are you serious?
I got an email today from someone wanting a part time job, work at home, where there is a lot of flexibility "make my own hours" i believe were the words used. She has a busy life with husband, kids and just needs a little extra money. So, she thinks of me and my job? I dont know how many times I have heard things like ... since you are at home can you go do this for me ... what do you mean you dont have time for lunch, what are you doing ... my kids are at a friends this afternoon, lets go see a movie ... you have training or a conference call for what ... or people just stop by the house to hang out for hours just chatting away without a care in the world, after all, it is their day off and since I am at home anyway .... What part of the phrase "WORK at home" is so confusing? Just because i am at home ... I still work 60 plus hours a week. I still have meetings and conference calls I have to attend. I am not just doing laundry and watching soap operas ... I HAVE A JOB Yes, some days are no brainer days just like everyone has but most days, it is stressful, and I actually have to think about what I am doing. Yes, there is a lot of flexibility .. I can go to lunch some days and I can some days go shopping in the middle of the afternoon ... but if I am out running around in the middle of the day .. chances are that I got up and worked 3-4 hours before your alarm ever went off and I will still be working way after you go to bed. So, yes, I seriously WORK at home.
